GTA Back to Business After Snowstorm: Schools, Transit & Weather Update (2026)

GTA Returns to Business After Heavy Snowstorm

The Greater Toronto Area is digging out from under a major snowstorm, with residents returning to their weekday routines. The storm brought about 2 to 4 cm of snow, starting Friday afternoon and continuing through the night. Environment Canada predicts flurries will end close to midnight.

In Toronto, the temperature is expected to reach a high of -2 C, but it will feel much colder at -13 C due to wind chill. Despite the harsh conditions, schools and universities are reopening, except for those in the Durham region, which remained closed.

The Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, York Region District School Board, and York Region Catholic District School Board have elementary schools closed on Friday due to a pre-planned Professional Activity Day. However, Peel and Durham school districts are set to open, with no reports of bus cancellations.

Public transit is still experiencing delays due to snow clearance efforts. Line 6 of the TTC was down again on Friday from Finch West to Humber College station. This follows a previous outage on Thursday that lasted nearly 14.5 hours.

The TTC's website lists 48 bus stops that remain out of service on Friday. As the situation unfolds, more updates are expected.
