CVS Health - Aetna: 313 Layoffs Impacting Hartford Office (2026)

CVS Health - Aetna has announced a significant reduction in its workforce, impacting 313 employees across various states. This decision, which comes as part of a broader restructuring plan, has raised concerns about job security and economic stability in Hartford, Connecticut. The affected employees work remotely, primarily outside of Connecticut, but report to management at the Hartford office, located at 151 Farmington Avenue.

In a letter to the state Department of Labor, Jennifer Bailey, Executive Director of Colleague Relations for CVS Health - Aetna, outlined the details of the layoffs. Bailey emphasized that the operational changes within the Small Group business segment necessitate these reductions, which are expected to be permanent. Out of the 313 impacted employees, 17 reside in Connecticut, while the majority work from various states outside the state.

The layoffs are scheduled to take place between April 3, 2026, and July 31, 2026. Bailey assured that all affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and that their terminations will be permanent. She also provided a comprehensive list of job titles, the number of employees in each role, and their expected separation dates.

This announcement marks the eighth round of layoffs since CVS Health's September 2024 announcement of sweeping job cuts. The company aims to reduce 2,900 corporate jobs nationwide, citing rising medical costs and a shift towards core businesses. Since the initial announcement, 1,046 jobs have been targeted for layoffs, with approximately 12% of them being Connecticut residents.

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam expressed concern over the job losses, emphasizing the impact on families facing economic hardship. The city will advocate for job retention and economic growth in the Capital City. CVS Health, in response, stated its commitment to supporting affected employees, offering severance pay, benefits, and access to outplacement services.

Interestingly, this is not the first time CVS Health has initiated layoffs. In October, the company announced the termination of 72 workers, primarily based in Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky, due to a lost contract for the Aetna Medicare Medicaid Program. These layoffs were also expected to be permanent, with employees reporting to managers at the Hartford headquarters.

As CVS Health continues to navigate its restructuring, the company remains dedicated to its presence in Connecticut, employing approximately 8,800 colleagues across the state. The recent layoffs, however, highlight the challenges faced by the healthcare industry in an era of economic uncertainty and changing business dynamics.
